With the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers, Steveston has hosted Canada’s best birthday party since 1945. The day starts out with a pancake breakfast and then the kids ride down Moncton Street in their bike parade. The Canada Day parade is next and includes floats, marching bands, community groups, vintage vehicles, and much more. There is entertainment and plenty of other activities such as the Children’s Festival, Japanese Cultural Show, and the Food Fair. One of the main attractions is the salmon barbecue where more than 1200 lbs of wild salmon is grilled over an open pit fire. It’s easy to see why this event attracts more than 80,000 people each year.
