mary’s prayer

2019 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Each year I try to make it out to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and the challenge is to make something I haven’t made before. This year I took my Leica Instax and had a bit of fun working with a tool that embraces imperfection in the most satisfying way.

One of the things I noticed this year were Marian Gardens in places along the road and one in the town of Mt Vernon. A Marian Garden, also called a Mary Garden, is a shrine with a statue of the Virgin Mary surrounded by flowers. The gardens are usually made up of flowers with a special connection to Mary.

Tulips are known as Mary’s Prayer. With its upward-facing flower, tulips are said to represent Mary’s openness and reflect the first line in Mary’s prayer–Hail Mary, Full of Grace.

I do love these Instax prints especially when Serendipity throws in a few mistakes.

Love the muted colors that Instax puts out. Especially the greens.
