pieces of steveston

It feels like change is rolling through the Village faster than a ball down the bowling lane. Today we say goodbye to a real treasure of a place, Pieces. Housed in the historic Hepworth building at the corner of Moncton and 2nd Avenue, Pieces was more than a gift shop; it was a place of love. No matter if you were there to shop or just to browse, David made you feel at home. Many times I dropped by just to chat with David and I left feeling like I had spent time with an old friend.

Around this time of the year, the store would be closed for a few days with boxes piled up outside, the windows covered, and a sign that elves were hard at work. Then boom. The main store window would be unveiled with an amazing holiday display. The Pieces window was always a favourite to photograph and sometimes just to enjoy. When the television show “Once Upon a Time” was filming in the Village, the window would transform Pieces into a shoe shop and at one point, a funeral parlour. But it would always return to something wonderful and whimsical.

I shall miss that window.
