fail and fail again

I am still enamoured with instant film after converting one of my father’s old Polaroid cameras to an Instax back some time ago (see previous post). The photographs in this post, however, were made with another one of his Polaroids, this time using Fuji peel apart film. I like using this camera but the challenge is using film that wasn’t intended for this body. With ten frames in each pack, it isn’t uncommon for me to work through the all the film to get something that is closer to what I am trying to make. Pretty expensive proposition especially now that the film has been discontinued by Fuji. I do have a few packs in reserve for something special. Not sure what that will be but I do need to figure out what will work with this camera and film.

Fail and failing again.

FAIL is just an acronym for First Attempt in Learning and after that, Further Attempts in Learning.

Finally I made something half decent. I’ve been studying this image below wondering where it came from, other than maybe just experimentation with the Polaroid camera and Fuji film. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m influenced here by my friend Ken Udle who has been working on a series called Empty Spaces.

Recently I reached out to my friends for some colour photographs to add to my home and Ken sent me a link to a number of images that aren’t in his gallery. He has been taking a slow long-term approach to this series and I am looking forward to seeing it in a book or portfolio one day. I hope you pop over to Ken’s website and take a look at his work.

I can see you turned a corner in that penultimate image Sabrina 😉 I thought of Ken straight away for the last image.
