photo of the day – break in

Nothing too special today, just adding sketches to the Urban Dog project with this one. I drove by this home and had to laugh when I saw this dog trying to get back into the house. I’ve been watching a lot of “The Dog Whisperer” on the National Geographic Channel lately and learning more about the reasons why dogs behave the way they do. Last week it was about dogs that want to be outside all the time and that’s why this scene made me chuckle. The show is fascinating but it’s also revealing how and why humans affect their behaviour more than anything else and that has implications for my project.

One more thing, a reminder that if you are interested in attending ART 2012, to send us your expressions of interest before the end of day February 29. We have already received a number of excellent letters letting us know why people want to be around the table and what they hope to gain. It’s clear from the effort most have put into the written submissions that there are photographers out there who want to create images that are more than just imitations of what we already see out there. The struggle though is how to tap into what we already know and what we need to learn to make that happen. Finding and raising your voice is not difficult, the challenge lies within ourselves and asking the questions we need to answer in order to create work that will garner more than a few “Likes” on Facebook or “Awesome” on 500px. Today Ray Ketcham has a post on his blog discussing this in more detail. Please drop by; we’d love to hear from you.

I went through a phase of being absolutely obsessed with Cesar Milan. Especially when we were looking after Gertie. It is really interesting, although he makes it look a whole lot easier than it is. :)

Sabrina – can you talk more about the idea of ‘making sketches’ for a series?? Sounds interesting.

Love that you’d engrossed in your project – Mason is an indoor dog and loves nothing better than being on the inside looking out whereas Fortnum is an outdoor dog that likes nothing better than to explore. Go figure!

IMO dogs are like the only animals that nearly 100% reliant on humans in one shape or another.
