photo of the day – home sweet home
Here’s another image from my day with Ellie Ericson. Steveston is a former fishing village close to where I live and I often go there to photograph. For some professional photographers, it’s the “go to” place for engagement and wedding pictures and I think you can see why. A number of buildings have been preserved and restored and you can visit each of them to learn more about the history of the village. I don’t know why it never occurred to me before to photograph this home with a wide angle lens with a vertical orientation.
This brings me to some exciting news from my mentor Ray Ketcham and our mutual friend Stuart Sipahigil. They’ve just announced the first ever Close to Home photography workshop in Port Townsend! I’m so excited to be heading back down to PT to spend some time with the two of them and all the others I hope will join us there. I am looking forward to spending some dedicated time going deeper and to see new things in a place I visit often.
If anyone is coming from Vancouver and would like to carpool, please let me know.

Love the leading lines and the shadows. I especially love that the shadows line up perfectly with the door. What a cool shot! I recently had the opportunity to borrow and play with a wide-angle lens but I wasn’t so pleased with what I did with it. This makes me want to try again.
I have to agree with Dorothy – I think it’s really great that the shadows add the to the lines leading towards the door and that they line up with the cracks in the planks. Very cool!
Wow – I do like this one also
You nailed it with the leading lines, shadows and the contrast of the red house and the blue sky is gorgeous. I just started looking at my images from that day – so many little gems that came out of it despite the harsh sunlight we were dealing with at times. I’ll have to get busy and share some of them with everyone.
I’ll be joining you for Close To Home and would love to discuss the possibility of carpooling…
