Three days into the road trip and we were in Utah. I still didn’t have any idea of where we would finally pitch the tent and that was partly the point. To be unstructured, without expectations and a plan to make things fit. To experience something new I had never tried before and live in anticipation for a while. To feel the magical history of nature and then to make images.

And, make an image you did!
Thanks Monte…nice to see you here again
What a place. That is magnificent. Magic indeed!
Are there any more images?
Unstructured is generally how the boy and I plan camping holidays. Pick a direction, drive like hell and find a campsite wherever we happen to end up where the sun sets – this was made even easier when we got the camper trailer, cause time lapse from beginning camp set up to beer in hand: 5 minutes
It’s been a long while since I’ve actually had to execute a planned holiday (planning is counter-intuitive to the idea of holiday in my head), so i’m a bit lost now, trying to plan for next year…
Yes believe it or not, there are more images from Bryce Canyon. I think I’ll post one tomorrow and maybe one more after that but not sure.
A camper trailer would have been divine. We had to pitch a tent from scratch and although it was good to have an experienced camper with me, I thought it was a lot of work to put up and take down after only one night.
I live for planning so this was quite a departure for me. As you can see though I sailed right through…sort of.
I think if I had to pitch a tent the old school way I’d end up sleeping in the car. It would never stand! When we gave up our roof top tent, we got one of these: http://au.oztent.com/ – the perfect tent for city idiots who can’t figure out these dastardly things called knots…
You did sail impressively through. Well done! I’m assuming that Ray is now planning more camping trips?
Man I love that tent. Could have really used it on more than one occasion. There will be more trips for sure. I need to organize my time much better and actually take time off work when I go. Then the internet connection won’t be needed.
Having to work on holiday sounds like a downer. On the bright side we actually had you tweeting every now and then, so internet connection: bonus for those living vicariously through you
Structure is for bridges and buildings
Ooooooh I LIKE this one. I flow with the gradation of blue in the sky to green in the trees to the orange canyon – it’s beautiful.
Although it is a much seen view of Bryce, Ellie, I still liked photographing it. There is something to be said for seeing something for the very first time yourself.
