door #1

Doors can represent a number of things. I think though, one of the most universal aspects they reflect is opportunity. The question is whether or not we choose to explore those opportunities. Sometimes we need certainty to know what is behind a particular door before we open it and sometimes we have enough curiosity, courage or faith to place our hand on the doorknob and to turn it.

Nice thoughts on the meaning of doors, Sabrina. And what an interesting door too. I wonder what is behind it…

When I see doors, I see texture. I am not artistically intelligent enough to think about the possible metaphors of a door. I think Monty Hall. Then again, Monty was offering opportunity with doors. :)

I love doors. They always have something to offer, on both sides. I seem to see more of them as I get older and am more comfortable about opening them without knowing what’s on the other side. In fact some the best new beginnings and paths to walk are found in those doors we know nothing about.

Another fantastic use of color with a little accent of green along the bottom.

There’s a real sense of music about this photo: look at all the theme and variation of rectangles and squares, and the little grace notes of filigrees, the variations on columns, the sizes of the doors….

Wow. I really like this. And I like it even more because it didn’t grab me immediately. I had to look at it a little bit and then it just revealed more the longer I looked.

And I bet this would be a beautiful print, too.

Love this post! It seems we are thinking very similarly right now.

For my last couple of days in Amsterdam, I wandered around the city and photographed as many doors and windows as I could. The architecture in the Canal district was so beautiful and quaint in that classical European style. I couldn’t get enough of the place :)

I have always had a fascination for doors and windows, and associated them as opportunities and new avenues in life as a metaphor. So Amsterdam seemed the perfect place to let my mind wander with all the possibilities as I photographed my way through the city!

I love to be able to take photographs of anything and everything as a visual journal – doors are something I often notice but never stop to record. Perhaps now I will.
