I’m on the road for work again so not much time to do regular posts. There’s nothing special about this image that I shot on the weekend but I do have a reason for sharing it. I spent about an hour wandering around Steveston on a drizzly afternoon. I’ve shot there several times but for the first time, I felt like something was missing. Can you guess what it was?
March 17, 2010 Update
Yes, we have a winner! Stuart is right.
As I went around the Britannia Heritage Shipyards, I was struck by how many great backgrounds there were crying out for people. It confirmed to me that I’ve been bitten by the people photography bug. So is there anyone is Vancouver or the Lower Mainland who is interested in coming out to Steveston for a photo shoot? I’ll try to find some models for us and failing that, we can do some profile pictures for each other inspired by Jasmine Star’s post on Darren Rowse.

Snow? People? The lack of a good f/2.8 wide angle zoom?
It’s funny….I’ve been noticing that too…..that it’s the addition of people that make the scene, whether they know they are being photographed or if the are just passing through. Long before I had a blog, I told a similar story here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mark_k_nj/2831320286/
Still…this is a cool, clean photo with an interesting background.
That’s a great photo. I’ve learnt you don’t always need a whole person in an image; fingers will do just fine.
It looks like I might be heading back to the shipyards next weekend as a photo sherpa. My friend Mary is doing a family portrait session there so I’ll see how she uses the backgrounds with people. I’m excited about that!
