Not a long post today, folks but always a photo
This image was taken at an impromptu visit to a Maasai Village but more on that tomorrow. Today I wanted to share an image that I processed using Lightroom and Photoshop. The significance is that I am new to Lightroom and while I had it loaded up for our safari, I did not have a chance to use it while I was there. Instead I’ve started to learn how it works after my return and I am excited at what it can do for me as a photographer trying to share my experience with others. Enjoy!

I started using Lightroom when the Beta for LR3 came out and so far I’m loving it as well!
Keep me posted on your progress so we can compare notes!
This is a very nice B&W.
Thanks John. I didn’t like in colour but I thought the composition worked so here it is…
I just started LR too and I must agree with you.
You have come home with many good images!
I know. I am cringing now that I realize the images are resonating more and more. I promise to bookend my post on “Expectation”; it’s the least I can do!
While I think that I might like this better as a B&W image (maybe), I really like it – a lot. The eyes are piercing, and there is the happenstance hint of a question mark from a loose thread on the cloth, which adds to the intrigue. This one’s a keeper.
Jeffrey, I love it when you pop by! I was wondering if anyone would see the question mark as I did not see it until recently. I didn’t love this image until this morning when I posted it and realized it was no coincidence that I selected this one today.
In photography, I have found my voice.
I think I should rephrase. I don’t “really like” this image; I love it. It’s very strong. Pull more of these out of your camera, and, well… wow. You have indeed found your voice.
I have to pretty much echo Mr Chapman on this, and add what made you think you had trouble making compelling people images?
LR is my choice as well and for B&W in LR I use the Nik Silver Efex plugin.
Self-doubt? No objectivity?
Seriously Ray, when I posted it this morning I did not know it would be received the way it has been. I didn’t even tweet about the post like I normally do–so thank you!
This is so strong. You must submit this to some PDN-like contests.
Thanks Mark…a compliment coming from you that’s for sure!
Wow – Sabrina, this is gorgeous. Okay – you keep digging up keepers out of your collection. I hope the same happens for me when I finally am able to go through them!
I also have some great shots of you taking photos of people. I think you are a closet people photographer after all:)
Hey Roomie!!! I remember you looking at this one on the back of my camera and giving it your thumbs up. Your eye is definitely better than mine. If I ever come out of the closet, you’ll have to take some of the credit!
And last but not least, please, please post your images when you can. I suspect you and I are alike and we’ve been too hard on ourselves. Let others see your work; I just know that people will feel a connection with them like I did. I so badly wanted to steal your memory cards while you were sleeping!
I love this one. I want to see this printed life-sized, hung at eye level. Yeah!
LOL Erin…that’s pretty big but a great suggestion I hadn’t even considered. You and Sue are such big fans and I so appreciate it. Thank you.
I love the composition and the B&W treatment. I have been converting more than a few of my winter pictures in LR2 and it is always surprising to see how that can improve on the image. Keep up the good work. You’ve been posting some very nice pictures here.
Thanks Ken. Isn’t it great to have LR in the toolkit? I think many winter images look better in black and white. You and I will have to follow up on Ray’s suggestion to add Nik Silver Efex…
Powerful stuff Sabrina. The style reminds me of old issues of Life and Look magazines. (I know. Before your time.) This one’s got to be printed big and hung with pride. If you decide to see posters you let me know!
Jeff
Just can’t type some days. If you decide to sell posters or prints let me know.
Sincerely,
Fumblefingers
Dear Fumblefingers, you’re welcome here any time
To tell you the truth I haven’t given any thought to selling any of my images but for sure I’ll contact you to get your wisdom if I do. Thanks!
p.s. great “gesture” in this photo! – you have to admit, gesture was much easier to achieve shooting people than those pesky animals that kept offering up their bums to our viewfinders.
I also love the texture in this shot – the blanket, his furrowed brow – I just love this shot.
I agree! Maybe that’s why I felt bummed
Seriously though did you see Beate’s post today http://dalbecphoto.wordpress.com/2010/02/18/a-different-angle/ ? That’s some nice bum!
Strong portrait Sabrina – great focus on the eyes!
Not sure how I missed this. Such a great portrait for the reasons YOU AND everyone said above. You really brought out the feeling in this one – it feels so raw.
Completely missed that one earlier. This is really great!!
