It’s Friday and I’m heading home today after some morning meetings. As promised on Twitter last night, today I’m posting my favourite animal image from my Kenyan safari. Our guides told us that we were very lucky to even see a leopard let alone on our first day and in full view. It was actually the second one we spotted less than one hour into our game drive. I still get goosebumps when I look at it!
Here’s the metadata: shot with my 70-300 mm –focal length 220 mm; aperture f/5.6 ; shutter speed 1/125. As you can see the leopard was sitting quite still as my shutter speed was slow in comparison to the focal length and it is still sharp. No wonder I’m now in love with my latest lens. Happy Friday Everyone!

Wow. Lovely tonal palett, great diagonal composition. Super image.
Thanks Marco…I wonder what Ami would say about it
Oh, wow. that is just a beautiful shot of one of my favourite animals. You should enter that into the Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Your doubts after your trip should be dispelled. If you only got the pictures you’ve shown so far it was worth it!
I’ll have to check out that competition, Ed. I’ve also been thinking about the bookend post to my initial feelings. I really should write something
Wow Sabrina that is way cool. The shadows on the cat play with the spots so perfect. He just pops off the page. Beautiful image, it looks to me like you needed a little distance and a second look at what you shot on the safari to really see how good they are.
Think I’ll grab some tape and one of the cats and try a NW version of this.
LOL Ray, now that’s one picture I have to see! At first I didn’t know how I felt about the shadows but I have to agree with you in your observations.
And yes, time heals all wounded expectations.
Love this! Very very cool Sabrina!!!!! You came back with some great images!!
Thanks Sue. Just wait until we go to Chicago, then we’ll have the whole Twitterverse talking!
Wow…those eyes! What a gorgeous animal. (What a great lens!)
The eyes do have it, Dave. The lens is available to you anytime!
Fantastic shot! I can’t believe how many cats you managed to see. I love that both hind paws are sticking out from behind the tree. I love this lens also
Welcome back Simon! I couldn’t have posed him any better if I tried. BTW…do you have this lens too?
Wow! Two trips through Kruger Park in South Africa, and not a single leopard spotted. You made the most of your find. It’s a lovely shot!
Hey Erin, I didn’t know you’d been to the Kruger–twice! I have a few more of the other leopards we saw so stayed tuned.
