It’s Christmas Day. All the gifts have been opened and the turkey and trimmings devoured. We are so blessed with an abundance of the comforts of hearth and home and food aplenty, and the love of friends new and old. Living in North America we have much to be grateful for so let’s take some time out this season to do something for those who live with much less. On Christmas Eve my friend, David W. and I visited the Richmond Cat Shelter and spent two hours with close to 900 cats who have no homes. While it was sad to see so many unwanted cats, the Cat Shelter has a policy against euthansia. After just a few minutes there it was clear that all they wanted was a bit of love and attention. I’ll share some photos from our visit there in a few days.
Today I wanted share some images from our Christmas feast. All the images in this posting were taken with my friend, Dave T’s 50mm f/1.8. He has kindly loaned this lens to me for my trip to Africa. After shooting with this lens all day, I’m wondering if he’ll ever see it again :]
Christmas crackers – a family tradition
the only turkey we’ll make – deconstructed brine turkey with sage
homemade cranberry sauce
steamed green beans with almonds
oven baked yams
broccoli and carrots

beets and oranges

all together on the plate

Sabrina, those are some seriously good food shots. I’m constantly impressed with how rapidly your photography advances.
It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas.
Have a great New Year. I predict many good things ahead for you.
Mark
Your comments are always thoughtful and inspiring. They make me reflect on why my journey unfolds in the way it does.
Thank you for your kind wishes for the year ahead. I have a sneaky feeling you are going to have an amazing year of your own.

Awesome images! Very, very sweet images! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like them. Thanks for stopping by, Mark!
I particularly like your last shot of the plated meal. Nice use of DOF and you have really well balanced colours. The food looks great too
It helps that my sister is a fabulous cook, Erin. She always tries to have as many colours of the rainbow when she does a meal.
I’ve also discovered that her kitchen is an amazing studio when it comes to natural light. I’m going to take over it soon; she just doesn’t know that yet.
Great images….but where are the recipes…;)
Sorry John…Aperture Priority at F/1.8, Shutter Speed 1/100s
Oh not that recipe
Like most great cooks, my sister doesn’t really work from a recipe. Other than the turkey, everything was done on the fly.
Man oh man. It’s late. I’m catching up on some internet reading and I find this post. This looks absolutely WUNNERFUL! Now I’m starving.
Great shots. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
