september in the gardens

It seems fitting that the first post in my new blog home on WordPress is for my long term project of shooting monthly at the Van Dusen Gardens. Today I spent an hour at the gardens enjoying the beginning of the change in seasons and while I was quite taken with the autumn crocuses, it was this image of Japanese Blood Grasses that spoke to me. Using a technique I learnt from Bryan Peterson and practiced recently at my week long workshop in New Brunswick, you simply set your camera to shutter priority and with a shutter speed of 1/8 second and then move your camera. The result is always different and never disappointing.

Titled “Dancing”, this image represents a celebration and the way I’m feeling having finally made the move over from Blogspot to WordPress. After almost three weeks of looking at HTML code and at least two meltdowns, I am pleased to return to regular posting and sharing my images. While I will share more about my experience to change blog platforms later on, the main reasons for the change were to be able to showcase my images and to make it easier for people to provide comments. So without further ado, please take a look around and feel free to either leave a comment below or use the form on the Contact page to send me an email.
