Vancouver and Whistler are hosting the next Winter Olympics and yesterday marked one of the biggest milestones on the way to February 2010. For the past four years, construction of the light rail system from the Airport/Richmond to downtown Vancouver has caused grief for both drivers and business owners along the line. All this seemed a distant memory as more than 80,000 people rode the Canada Line on its first day open to the public–me included.
The line-ups were lengthy and the cars were packed but nothing was going to hold me back from riding the line to get some pictures of this historic day. Part of the line is above ground but almost all of the line in Vancouver is underground including a crossing under False Creek. Here is a shot taken with my G9 inside the tunnel as we sped north from Richmond to Vancouver. More tomorrow!
