july in the gardens

As usual I am cutting it close with my monthly image from the Van Dusen Gardens but I had a good reason, honest. Today is the first day of my weekend workshop with Bryan Peterson and he was bringing with him my new 300 mm f/4 lens. I wanted to try it out today and crossed my fingers that I would find time to post in between our morning and afternoon/evening shoots.

So here it is–an ode to the record breaking heat we’ve been experiencing for the past two days. The sunflowers are loving it. Where all the other flowers in the Gardens are crying out for a drink, these summer sentinels are just lapping up the heat and sunshine. This shot is taken with my new 300 mm f/4 lens but with two extension tubes attached. I experimented with this combination earlier in the day with different results but I’ll share those images later next week. Let’s just say I have a new love and it’s reciprocal :)

Oh, I know you're loving it! Great shot! Give us back our sunflowers! AHH! I'm going to check our single sunflower farm this side of western Kansas this week, but have a feeling it's going to be a long time before blooming this year.

Beautiful shot Sabrina!! Watch the bees!

Thanks for being my biggest fan, Sue. You know that I'd have loved nothing better than you and Ron joining me on this workshop. If not for the amazing company, at the very least to give you back your summer!
