I really didn’t know what to expect but as you can tell from the title, this year’s Worldwide Photo Walk in Vancouver was something very special. Like +32,000 people across the world, a group of photographers met to spend a couple of hours shooting pictures. We began our walk at the entrance to Stanley Park and ended up a couple of kilometres down the road at Third Beach where Photo Walk leader David duChemin and his cohort Dave Delnea had set up an outdoor photography set complete with models! We spent the next two hours playing in the best darn sandbox on the beach I have ever experienced–no ifs, ands or buts about it.
Dave Delnea is one amazing guy and a wonderful teacher. It was my first time shooting with lighting equipment outdoors and actually only my second time ever shooting with lighting gear. Dave explained how the lighting in this particular situation works and after only a few adjustments, I took the shot above. It sounds all too easy and I have to say that it was not. I took many shots and while most did not turn out I had a blast and learnt something important. I don’t actually dislike creating images with people; I just don’t know how to do it well and the thought of that holds me back.
I’ll share some more of my images throughout the week but for now I’d like to share a video that David duChemin created of our walk on the wild side. Turn up the sound and enjoy!
