Last night I tweeted a link on 80+ photographers to follow on Twitter and a couple of hours later @MattBrandon replied that he was hurt his name wasn’t on the list. He was only joking of course and promptly responded by creating his own “Follow Wednesday” list that included only me and @GavinGough. What’s funny is that I’ve never met Matt or Gavin but the social phenomenon of Twitter has allowed me to interact with these leaders in photography.
Coincidently today the Global Language Monitor announced that the millionth word for their online dictionary is Web 2.0 which refers to the next generation of web products including social networking tools such as Twitter. Twitter would be the modern equivalent of picking up the phone book and calling someone under the “B’s” (that’s “B” for Brandon, Matt) and seeing if they’d like to get together for coffee. It’s so easy to do that one can forget it is a real privilege for new photographers to have this kind of access to their inspirational heroes.
Last Saturday my friend @SueAbles was here visiting from Kansas City and just missed meeting @pixelatedimage who in Edmonton doing a gig. David D’s ears must have been burning as Sue and I discussed how we have stumbled upon this amazing circle of photographers. Unbelieveable as it may seem, they truly want to share their wisdom without any sense of protectionism or fear of being surpassed–as if that were even possible! What first drew us to these photographers were their images. We followed them because we liked what we saw in a 1/20th of a second frame. But those images were more than just photographs; they were a reflection of who they were as photographers and as people, and I believe that we are compelled to follow them as much for the latter as the former. So I’d like to thank David, Matt, and Gavin for leading us through our journey as photographers and allowing us to follow them in a way that is so up close and personal. You may or may not be one of the 80+ photographers to follow on Twitter but you are on my list and that’s all that matters to me.

Oh Sabrina, how fortunate we are, eh? Every photographer we have gravitated towards has been so helpful, kind, and friendly! What a blessing! Great post and we had a fab time in Vancouver! Thanks again. The hubs thinks you are grand for such an incredible tour in such a short time ; ) We were EXHAUSTED! haha (that is a good thing)
Sue : )
Sorry Sue, I completely forgot that after a day of touring around, you and hubs still had to drive 3 hours to get back to the cruise ship outside your hotel window. Glad you had a good time and hope you come back soon
