Great news this week via an email from Ryan Snider who is leading a socially responsible photographic safari to Kenya in January 2010; we have met the minimum number of participants to start planning our trip! There is still room for others to join us so check out the website for more information; better yet if you are in the Toronto area, stop by Ryan’s information session to learn more. You’ll see photographs from previous safaris, and meet your guide and other prospective travellers over Kenyan tea and coffee. Here are the details:
A number of people have asked about the level of photography one would have to be at in order to join this safari. David duChemin, our photographic instructor on the safari, has assured us that this is a trip that can be enjoyed by photographers at all levels. In his book Within the Frame he discusses photographing people, places, and cultures and what we can do before we step on the plane for example, researching our destination. It just so happens that a few weeks ago on CBC News: Sunday there was a wonderful documentary on the Maasi and how they used the technology of digital photography to help save their culture. Take a look at how what we take for granted as photographers is a whole new world of wonderment for people half way across the world. Hope to see you on the safari!
