out of the mouths of babes

In three simple words uttered by a child is something I’ve only just begun to understand and fully appreciate: the “why” we take photographs. David Sanger’s recent entry on his blog titled “Authenticity” explains this well. Photographers should seek to make images that mean something and our images should reflect and carry our values including “developing a capacity for wonder”.

I don’t know if I will ever bump into those two girls again but when I was at the Van Dusen Gardens on the weekend, I lay down on the grass underneath the orange poppies and I thought of them.

I have had similar experiences! What a joy it is open someone’s eyes like that and get them so excited about taking a photograph! You have opened up a new world to those girls and have changed the way they will take their own photos from now on guaranteed.

Love this shot. When my poppies start blooming, you can come and photograph them!
