It was a beautiful sunny day in Vancouver, perfect for my monthly trip to the Van Dusen Gardens where I spent almost two hours just soaking in all the colour. The Rhododendron walk was in full bloom and so were the Golden Chain Laburnums. Sitting under the sunny yellow laburnums were these onion flowers or allium as they are more commonly known. We don’t think of flowers when we think of onions as we normally see them in their dried or harvested form at the grocery store. So here’s to a new way of thinking about onions–one that doesn’t bring a tear to the eye!
