Julieanne Kost based on her book Window Seat. This wonderful collection of images reminded me of when, as a child, I used to fly into JHB (Johannesburg, South Africa) and see all the swimming pools below. I can’t remember when I changed my mind and started to choose the aisle seat but I’ve come full circle and now I want to be in the window seat again.
>Taken 30 minutes into the flight, this view of the Coast Mountains reflects the rather flat grey light for which Vancouver winters are infamous–just ask any interior designer. The histogram shows a very limited dynamic range however it is a good candidate for demonstrating the HDR technique from a single RAW file. Compare the two images above and you can see the details and contrast in the Photomatix processed image that are missing in the original. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning this new technique but I must admit I am ready to get back to honing my craft by shooting more images rather than working on the computer. I hope to do exactly that as Robert has planned great locations for us to visit while in Tampa.
On my way down here I thought about what I’d like to accomplish over the next three days. First I’d like to improve my composition skills based on Robert’s course so that they become more integrated into my thinking, to be natural and not prescribed. I am also still seeking to uncover my photographic voice. I am not sure why but I really feel the need to develop my own style even though I am learning from others. My third wish is what my sister and I call a “bug-a-boo”, something that you simply have to do because you haven’t done it yet. That is to get a really good, in focus, killer image of a city skyline. I failed to do this in Seattle with Bryan and I haven’t succeeded in doing this in Vancouver despite numerous tries. Fourth, I’d like to learn what it takes to create good wildlife images. This is part of my long term plan to one day go on safari with Andy Biggs. I had better learn before I go as that trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. And lastly, I’d like to have fun. This is the first time I have met some of the friends I’ve made online through PPSOP. If dinner tonight was any indication, this goal for sure will be accomplished.
