lesson learned

At first I was going to title this posting “photo of the day” but then I thought readers might not see the humour in it for there is no photo here so instead I called it “lesson learned”. Like many of the best lessons in life, there is usually a missed opportunity, a sprinkling of regret, and then you have the makings of a timeless pearl of wisdom. Have I piqued your curiosity? Well here goes…

Last weekend we saw the beginnings of our white Christmas with a dump of snow on Saturday. All week the temperatures have been below freezing. Mid-week we had even more precipitation and the world around us remained a winter wonderland. It is particularly beautiful out at UBC where today on our daily Starbucks coffee run, we saw two coyotes crossing the road to make their way down a snowy trail lined with tall, lightly frosted pine trees. The first thing that I thought of was to take a photo and then I realized I didn’t have a camera with me. I felt even worse when the pair stopped and turned to look at us and I saw what would have been a truly amazing image.

My father often said to always carry a camera because you don’t know when you might need it; boy do I wish I had listened to him. Perhaps I will get another chance. Rest assured that I have learned my lesson and I will have my camera at the ready!
